Li is an associate professor with a Ph.D. He works on Western classical aesthetics centered on Kant, contemporary aesthetic theory, and the history of modern Chinese literature and thought. He offers courses including Study of Western Classics of Aesthetics: Based on Critique of Judgment, Aesthetic Theory and Art Criticism, Contemporary Literature of China (1917-1949), Theory of Literature and Art, and Appreciation of Film Art.

He taught at the Department of Chinese Language & Literature of Sookmyung Women's University in Seoul, Korea from 2013 to 2014, visited the Philosophy Department at Harvard University from 2010 to 2011, and has been the Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute at the University of Turin since 2020.
